Myself; Yourself – 13

Omg wtf I knew that the violin teacher was suspicious but I never expected it to be this bad.

Super spoiler alert!

Nanaka’s violin teacher was her father and mother’s close friend, and before his death he revealed something to her father.

As it turns out, Nanaka’s real father is actually her violin teacher. Her mother’s husband (which I guess can’t be called her father anymore) is raging mad and kills her mother before burning down their house. Omg.

Nanaka then locks herself up in her room and refuses to see anyone, even though Sana comes to her house every day. He eventually finds her door unlocked one day and enters, but the room is empty. He then hears the sound of water coming from the toilet and goes back to wait. After a while though he starts to get worried and goes to take a look, and sees Nanaka in tub full of water, with blood leaking from her wrist.

This brings back memories of how he did the exact same thing, and also explains what the watch is for. He was bullied very badly in middle school, and eventually got sick of living. But he’s changed now, he tells Nanaka. He’s scared of dying, and when he thinks about the time he tried to kill himself he’s glad that he didn’t die, because then he wouldn’t be able to save Nanaka.

When Nanaka hears this, all she says is ’sonna’, and they pull a ‘ten years later’.

Nanaka is having a concert, and everyone comes back to watch. Hinako has a boyfriend, Syusuke and Syuri are still together, and Aoi spots Hoshino on the way there and pulls her along.

Before the concert, Nanaka is preparing herself in the tent when Sana enters holding a small blue box. No prizes for whoever guesses what’s inside ^^

Yuzuki-sensei rewards Sana for becoming a man with a caramel, and Nanaka comes onto the stage. She first talks a bit, then plays her song, entitled ‘Myself; Yourself’.

Myself; Yourself gets a standing ovation from me! I absolutely love it. That was a great last episode to tie off all the loose ends and show what happened to all the main characters as well. With such a short time an episode I was expecting them to just forget about everyone else and focus on Sana and Nanaka only, but they managed to show everyone else as well. (Even though it was just in the last few minutes, but I’m still happy)

From character design to storyline to episode pacing and music, all of it is brilliant. Myself; Yourself is certainly my favourite anime this fall season. Now that it’s ended, what will I look forward to every week? T_T

And the song Nanaka played at the end, ‘Myself; Yourself’ was absolutely beautiful. I need the soundtrack!
