Okay, so they are not totally copied, but the similarities are so blindingly obvious. So I shall say ‘referenced‘. Which brings me to my main point:
Where did Odex get their ‘reference material‘ from?

Is the TV picture taken with camera pointing at TV or captured digitally?
You can tell my looking at it right? The top one was from AFK which is taken from PC while the bottom one is shown on TV, StarHub’s Channel 56. Unless someone records it on dvd and take screenshots directly from the PC.

You know, a.f.k. did not have the rights to make that translation, and under international copyright law, that translation probably belongs to the original copyright owner. If the original material was correctly licensed, they are most likely entirely within their rights to use a.f.k.’s translation.
I’m not too familiar with this, but aren’t translations the intellectual property of the translator? As in, you can use the raw, but not the subs. IIRC, you don’t even have to apply anything, its automatically copyrighted.

any work done on a IP(intellectual property) so long as it is not making a profit that will cause the original copyright owner a loss is called a derivative work. This is similar to REmixes by some artist on other artist works.
Yes A copyright is automatically generated on the creation of the work.
However, A group of people can come together and vest their IPs together for a company so that they can get a better profit for their individual IPs.
